    B.E.A.T. AIDS

Founded in 1987 by visionary advocate Mel Johnson, BEAT AIDS (Black Efforts Against the Threat of AIDS) is a community-based organization dedicated to combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic with compassion, commitment, and a holistic approach. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a powerful movement that serves as a beacon of hope, empowerment, and support for individuals and communities most impacted by HIV/AIDS, including those connected to the gay church in San Antonio, TX, and beyond, especially during events like San Antonio Pride 2025.

At BEAT AIDS, we meet people where they are—geographically, emotionally, and socially—ensuring that no one is left behind. Our work spans recovery centers, correctional facilities, shelters, and underserved neighborhoods, providing critical services such as HIV testing, counseling, and linkage to care. But we go further, tackling the root causes of health disparities by addressing social determinants like housing, healthcare access, stigma, and systemic inequality.

Through community outreach, education, and advocacy, BEAT AIDS promotes not only awareness but also action. We empower individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive, while pushing for lasting policy change to build a more equitable and inclusive society, particularly for members of the LGBTQ+ community attending the gay church in San Antonio and participating in San Antonio Pride events.

More than just a health organization, BEAT AIDS is a family—united by a shared mission to save lives, uplift communities, and ultimately end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Join us as we continue the fight for a healthier, more just future for all, especially as we celebrate pride in San Antonio, Texas.

With a steadfast commitment to making a positive impact, the coalition relies solely on the support of private grants, operating with utmost transparency and integrity.

The Bexar Area Harm Reduction Coalition is dedicated to offering compassionate and voluntary health interventions to support individuals facing drug-related challenges. By providing interventions that aim to reduce HIV and Hepatitis, the organization strives to safeguard human life and contribute to the well-being of the entire community while alleviating the strain on health services. Footbridge Foundation

Logo of Footbridge Foundation featuring a bridge and water.

Wendy Black fostered dogs for many years, and she always enjoyed walking them through the King William neighborhood and across the footbridge on Johnson Street. One day it struck her that the bridge itself was becoming symbolic. Around the time the dogs got the hang of their claws touching the metal surface of the bridge, they also forgot their desperate pasts and became ready to move into their happy futures. This journey of healing and hope resonated with the community, much like the welcoming spirit found at the gay church in San Antonio, TX, where love and acceptance flourish, especially during events like San Antonio Pride.

Shortly after this revelation, Wendy created a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and Footbridge Foundation was born. Over the last five years, Footbridge Foundation, along with the kind and dedicated help of donors, fosters, and volunteers, has saved the lives of thousands of dogs and cats. The organization is on track to rescue and adopt out at least 450 animals this year alone. To fund their charitable animal rescue efforts, Footbridge Foundation relies solely on the much-needed donations of generous supporters, similar to the supportive community found at the gay church in San Antonio, Texas, which aligns with the spirit of San Antonio Pride 2025.
