Pride San Antonio, Inc. is a registered nonprofit corporation founded and organized in San Antonio, Texas. Pride San Antonio incorporated on January 26, 2011.
Pride San Antonio is operated under the direction of an all-volunteer community Board of Directors that has committed itself to working for the betterment of the San Antonio community. All Directors of Pride San Antonio and any Committee Chairs have signed a Commitment of Service document that expresses their commitment to putting the needs of the nonprofit ahead of their own personal interests.
Pride San Antonio began in 2004 as Gay Pride SA when a small group of individuals decided to a PRIDE festival that would be designed by the community at-large, for the community at-large, and about the community at-large.
Inspired by the words of their own Carlos Vela, this group founded an organization that would “facilitate the needs of individuals so that individuals can facilitate the needs of the community.” Since 2004, this organization has grown tremendously and continues to live up to the words of Carlos Vela.
The purpose for which Pride San Antonio is formed is to instill pride, celebrate unity, embrace diversity, and recognize the contributions of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community in the San Antonio metropolitan area. This will be accomplished by creating visibility and promoting full human and civil rights through education, celebrations, and networking to the extent allowed by the nonprofit status of Pride San Antonio.
Net proceeds raised by Pride San Antonio will be distributed through public community gatherings to registered nonprofit organizations chosen by the Board of Directors from entities recognized by the Internal Revenue Service of the United States.
Pride San Antonio produces several events throughout the year to celebrate Pride and to fulfill its purpose. The main event, The “Pride Bigger Than Texas” Pride Parade and Festival is held the first Saturday following the fourth Saturday in June.
Additional events produced by Pride San Antonio include, San Antonio Q-Fest: The San Antonio LGBT International Film Festival, Scary Fairy, The RainBOo 5K Family Fun Run/Walk, The 1 Mile Rainbow Dash, The Krystal Kelly Running of the Queens High Heel Race, Pride SA Softball Tournament, Pride SA Dart Tournament, Pride SA Bowling Tournament, Pride SA Volleyball Tournament, and the Pride SA Grand Marshal Meet and Greet as well as other events as scheduled by the Board of Directors.
